The election to the Swedish Parliament in 1994 was held on 18 September 1994.

Government formation

The bourgeois minority government under Carl Bildt lost its relative majority against the resurgent Social Democrats. The New Democrats retired after one term from the Reichstag, the Greens succeeded in re-entry. The Social Democrats formed the support of the Left Party, a minority government with Ingvar Carlsson as prime minister. In 1996, Carlsson gave his office the previous Finance Minister Göran Persson.
