Swedish West India Company

The Swedish West India Company ( " Svenska Västindiska Kompaniet ") was a trading company that dealt with trade between Sweden and the West Indies.

The Company received on 31 October 1786 establishing royal approval, coupled with the privilege of trading with the West Indian island of Saint -Barthélemy (Swedish possession from 1784) and with other West Indian islands between North and South America. The Stockholm wholesale merchants Arfwedson, Schinckell and Pauli started from 1 January 1787 the subscription for shares of the Company. One of the largest trading companies of that time was the trading house Tottie & Arfwedson. Persistently high losses of ships by privateering, import ban variety of goods ( especially of coffee) led in 1805 to the dissolution of most overseas trading companies.
