Geography

Sweeny is 9.1 m above sea level and 32 km from the Gulf of Mexico. The San Bernard River flows 1.6 km west of the city limits.

History

Once considered Adamston known, the city was named after the family name of John Sweeny. The marked by a medallion of the Texas Historical Society House of Sweeny was inhabited until the year 1991 by a descendant of the Sweeny family.
