The Sweetwater River is a river in the U.S. state of Wyoming. It rises on the Continental Divide in the southern Wind River Range, a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains, and flows just under 250 km (150 miles) in the North Platte River, or in the Pathfinder Reservoir, to which the two rivers by the Cortes dam be dammed.

Along the river ran to the middle of the 19th century 's most important transport route across the Rocky Mountains. The settlers and trade routes Oregon Trail, California Trail and Mormon Trail went together in this section and chain just before the Wind River Range on the South Pass to the west. Major attractions along the river include Independence rock, a prominent rock, the early mountain men and settlers at the annual train in the mountains reached on or about July 4, and Devil's Gate, a narrow gorge of the river.
