Swift County, Minnesota
The Swift County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 9783 inhabitants and a population density of 5.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Benson.
Geography
The County is located southwest of the geographical center of Minnesota and reached at its southwestern corner of the Minnesota River at the mouth of the Pomme de Terre River. In the middle of the county from north to south by the Chippewa River flows through it, which also flows into the Minnesota River. The County is located in the west about 35 miles from South Dakota and has an area of 1949 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. History
The Swift County was formed on February 18, 1870 from parts of Chippewa County. It was named after Henry Adoniram Swift (1823-1869), the third Governor of Minnesota ( 1863-1864 ).
