Swift River Bridge in Conway

The Swift River is a right tributary of the Saco River in the U.S. state of New Hampshire.

The Swift River rises in the southern White Mountains on the east side of the Kancamagus Pass. From there it flows in an easterly direction for a distance of 41 km from Conway, where it flows into the Saco River. The New Hampshire Route 112 ( Kancamagus Highway ) follows the entire course of the river. The Swift River drains an area of 292 km ². It lies almost entirely within the White Mountains National Forest. At its flow path, there are several rapids, including Rocky Gorge and Lower Falls. The flow is over its entire length without dams.

Covered Bridges

The Swift River Covered bridges span the following:

  • Albany Bridge built in 1858
  • Swift River Bridge, built in 1869, shortly before it flows into the Saco River at Conway

Leisure

A 6 km long whitewater section on the difficulty level I-III leads from the Bear Notch Road to Rocky Gorge.
