Swindon railway station

Swindon ( Tariff name Swindon ( Wilts ), occupational abbreviation SWI) is a railway station in the British city of Swindon on the Great Western Main Line. From this station the line to Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa, the line to Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway and the line to the Cardiff branch off from each other.

History

Swindon has a rail connection since 1841. The old three-storey reception building of Swindon was opened in 1842. Here was the first historically documented, segregated classes of cars refreshment rooms for travelers. By 1895, every train had here a stay of at least 10 minutes to carry out a change of engines. This station was called until 1961, where he graduated as the old town station, Swindon Junction. The old station building was demolished in 1972 and replaced by a new building with office space.
