Swiss Foundation for Mine Action

The Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (French Fondation Suisse de Déminage ) was established as a Non-Governmental Organization in Geneva in 1997. The FSD is ZEWO certified and politically, ideologically and religiously neutral.

Organization

In 2005, 10 people working in its Geneva headquarters. The international mine clearance activities involve 60 international experts and 500 national deminers who were all trained by the FSD.

The budget for 2005 was 18 million Swiss francs. The FSD is funded by private and public donations and contributions. Often, however, the organization worked directly on behalf of the United Nations (WFP ) World Food Programme, the United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP), UNMAS, or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Mission

In 2005, the FSD has conducted humanitarian demining operations in the following countries: Sudan, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Laos. In recent years, however, the FSD also worked in Albania, Croatia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Philippines.
