Swiss Handball League

The Swiss Handball League ( SHL) includes among men the two highest divisions of the Swiss Handball Association.

History

The League has existed since 1950. Since the name change to Swiss Handball League not well received by many handball fans and also in many handball clubs, they decided on the 08/ 09 season to the old name National League A and National League B reintroduce. However, Swiss Handball League is the name given to the part of association that manages the top two leagues.

The Grasshopper Club Zurich was already able to call 19 times to 1979 Swiss champion and is still today giants ( 21 items). During the 90 - years boy scouts Winterthur established as the measure of all things and won between 1992 and 1998 six times the title and reached the Champions League 1997/98, the semifinals, which the reputation of the league, which was previously considered Seniorenliga for Bundesliga players massively improved.

During the season 2005/ 06 the Swiss national team took part in preparation of the 2006 European Championship on home soil on the game mode. She played from September to December once against any team. But after lost the first two games the team was renamed in Switzerland espoir.

In the season 2006/ 07 there were no losers in the National League B. This was decided by the Central Committee to the 07/ 08 season the league expand to twelve teams. The top four teams from the National League on up.

On March 17, 2007, the Grasshopper Club Zurich against the SG & Chênois Servette 55:22 with a new national record victory.

For the 2007/2008 season, a further innovation was provided; the top clubs cadets Schaffhausen and Grasshopper Club Zurich played from 07/ 08 in an alliance. The freed up space took over the second team by GC under the name Grasshopper Club Zurich espoir. The favored alliance was defeated surprising; Up ZMC Amicitia Zurich secured his fourth title, the first since 1989.

National League A

Qualifying round

In the NLA since the 2007 /08 season playing twelve teams for the title. After a simple return round (22 rounds), the league is divided.

Final and relegation round

During the first six teams fighting for the championship play the last six teams to avoid relegation this accord, again in a return round ( 10 rounds ).

The first four of the relegation round definitely remain in the NLA, while the two last must start the transition in the NLB.

National League B

Qualifying round

In the NLB since the 2007 /08 season playing twelve teams for the title. In addition, each team played a game against the Swiss U21 national team, the points are also considered from this game. After a simple return round (22 1 rounds) will qualify the top four teams for the promotion round while the last two teams have to stay in the first league. The Swiss U21 neither on nor descend.

Promotion round

The four teams that have qualified for the promotion round, play a simple return round ( 6 laps). The first and second place will advance to the NLA.
