Switzerland at the 2008 Summer Olympics
Switzerland was in 2008 for the 26th time in the Olympic Summer Games in part. The Swiss Olympic Association named 83 athletes for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing until July 22. The beach volleyball duo Kuhn / Schwer has been re-nominated on 31 July 2008. Road cyclist Michael Albasini had to be withdrawn before the start of the Olympics because of a serious shoulder injury from the Swiss Olympic team. The jumpers Beat Mandli had to be because of a violation of his top horse Idéo du Thot forfaitaires also before the start of the Olympic Equestrian Games in Hong Kong. On the other hand, the free style wrestlers Grégory Sarrasins was re-nominated ( -66 kg ). The Swiss Olympic delegation consisted therefore of 84 athletes and 4 replacement athletes. It was thus the smallest Swiss delegation for 32 years.
Flag bearer at the opening ceremony was like four years ago, the tennis player Roger Federer. At the closing ceremony of the judoka Sergei Aschwanden of Switzerland was the standard bearer.
Due to a doping offense by the Norwegian jumpers Swiss jumpers were subsequently awarded a bronze medal. On 17 November 2009 the Italian Davide Rebellin the silver medal in the road race was officially disallowed for a doping offense. Fabian Cancellara was thus subsequently the silver medal.
