Switzerland women's ice hockey league

The performance class A (short LKA LK or A) is the highest female hockey league in Switzerland. It was founded in 1989 by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation. Reigning champions are the ZSC Lions women.

History

The first woman ice hockey team in Switzerland was founded in 1980 in Fribourg as "La Vannerie ". Within the next four years came other eight teams that played off the group championship since 1985 into two groups. 1984 women were included in the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation ( SEHV ). As of 1987, the Swiss Championship has been played, the first Swiss Women's Champion were the EHC Kloten specials.

Besides the game mode in the league in the late 1980s, the "Swiss Selection" was founded, a national selection team of the best players in the country who participated in April 1987 on the first unofficial "World Tournament" in Toronto. For this team, the Swiss national ice hockey team of women emerged.

In 1988, Switzerland had a total of 18 women's teams with approximately 350 licensed players.

Prior to the 1989/90 season the matches in two performance classes (SC ) has been split, the LK A with six participants and the LK B with 17 teams. The LK B was divided into three groups, Western, Central and Eastern Switzerland, played out.

A year later, the first time the official title of Swiss Champion SEHV was played. Before the season 1995/96 a total of 29 teams in Switzerland were divided into three performance classes, the LK A and B, each with six clubs and the new LK and C. The latter consisted of 17 clubs who competed in three regional scales against each other.

Between 1995 and 2001 the top two divisions partly respectively as National League A National League B were designated. In the final of the 1998/99 season the EV train and the SC Reinach clashed. Here, the EV train for the first time won the championship. The DHC Lyss could not intervene in the title race after an unsuccessful first round. The EHC Biel could not establish itself as a climber in the LK A rose early and firmly relegated. 1999 abolished the EHC Illnau -Effretikon the rise of the power class B in the top flight.

In the 2001 / 02 season, the championship of the LK A was first held as a final tournament with four participants. Last year's champion SC Reinach prevailed in the final against the DHC Lyss to a 5-0 lead just 5-4 through. A year later, managed the same club with a squad of only nine players and a new final victory against the DHC Lyss the title hat-trick.

Since the season 2005/ 06 the Swiss champion will be played in the play- offs in the best of three mode. Since then, the league is mainly dominated by the HC Lugano, its players of the previous four -time champions were. In the 2007 /08 season of DHC Langenthal Swiss champion.

Since the season 2010/11 the Swiss champion will be played in the play- offs in the Best of Five mode. Since then faced off in the finals each of the HC Lugano Ladies and the ZSC Lions towards women. In the 2012/2013 season for her first time in the history of the LKA a final five games. The ZSC Lions then managed the feat yet to catch a 0:2 residue and then to be champions.

Today, a total take (2013 ) a total of 35 teams at the game operation in part: In the performance classes A and B, respectively, with six of eight teams played nationally. The Performance Class C comprises three regional groups: Eastern Switzerland ( seven clubs ), Central Switzerland ( seven clubs ) and West Switzerland ( seven clubs ).
