Swizzle stick

A swizzle stick is a device for reducing the carbon dioxide content of beverages. He is not to be confused with the stirring rod (English Stirrer), the partially cocktails and other mixed drinks is used and with which the guest can stir his drink itself.

The Swizzle Stick has come out in the form of a rod, spherical or star-shaped from the lower end of thin rods or wires. It consists mostly of stainless steel. The device resembles a small whisk, with the stirring or whisking by the carbonic acid of champagne or other carbonated beverages can be expelled.

The gas content of sparkling wines produced today but no longer does not fluctuate as a result of advances in manufacturing (particularly precise dosage of yeast and sugar amount ) as strong as a few decades ago, so that a subsequent reduction, for example through the use of a Sektquirls, usually more is needed. Sektquirle are therefore now used only rarely, for example, of people who can not tolerate carbonated.

In the catering industry, especially in bars Sektquirle are rarely used as Barwerkzeug in the production of cocktails. A similar tool, but rather related to the kitchen whisk, are carved wooden swizzle sticks. They are used for rapid stirring and cooling some tropical drinks, the swizzles, with crushed ice.
