Syangboche Airport

Syangboche is a small village in the Khumbu region (municipality Namche, Solukhumbu district ) of Nepal immediately north of Namche Bazar. It is located at 3,720 m altitude.

In Syangboche is a short, unpaved runway ( airport code SYH ), which is suitable for landing of small, single-engine machines and helicopters. 1995 began a small, private helicopter company to offer commercial flights for trekkers and expeditions. This led in 1996 to massive protests by the lodge owners in the places of the traditional arrival path in the Khumbu ( Lukla and Phakding ) and the carrier, who feared for their existence, on which the passenger air traffic was banned by the Nepalese government.

Immediately above the town, the Syangboche Panorama Hotel or even Everest View Hotel. As it is with 3.970 m already at a level in order to protect against altitude sickness a height adjustment is mandatory, the rooms are enriched with additional oxygen. The hotel is very popular with Japanese tourists and offers a breathtaking view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.
