Sydney Boehm

Sydney Boehm ( April 4, 1908 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † June 25, 1990 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles ) was an American screenwriter and film producer. He was a specialist in genre films, especially detective films and one of the most prolific film noir screenwriters.

Life

Boehm came quite late to the movie, until 1947 he was a reporter, who brought his experience as a court reporter in his screenplays. Except for two, all his scripts were based on collaboration with other authors or their prior processing.

In the 1950s he was firmly in succession at the film companies Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox contract. Later, Boehm not only wrote screenplays, but also produced some of the movies based on it. He remained active until 1971.

In addition to his first screenplay for the film, he charges: Murder wrote the movies Side Street (1950), the sci-fi film The Day of Judgment (1951 ), Seven Thieves (1960), The City were important points in his career, the thousand hazards ( 1952) - for which he was nominated for the screenplay Oscar - the screenplay for Fritz Lang's the Big Heat (1953 ) - for which he was honored together with William P. McGivern with the Edgar Allan Poe Award - and two other adaptations of books by William P. McGivern, the Heat (1954) and Bloody road ( 1955). At the end of his career Boehm was also involved in some Western, such as retribution without mercy, and as Jim Dolan came (1967).
