Sylpheed

Sylpheed is a free e- mail client and news reader for Unix-like and Windows operating systems. It is still by the first author Sylpheed, Hiroyuki Yamamoto (山 本 博 之Japanese, Hiroyuki Yamamoto ) waited.

The developer priorities are:

  • Speed
  • Easy configuration
  • Much functionality as possible, for example Scorefile and filters.
  • Stability.

In support of HTML is deliberately omitted.

The documentation for Sylpheed is created in a separate, multi-language project.

Technology

It is based on GTK 2 The core functionality is separate from the user interface in the program library LibSylph. Messages are stored in the data format of MH.

Availability

Sylpheed is distributed as free software in source code under the terms of the GNU General Public License ( GPL). It is directly installed in many popular Linux distributions from the standard repositories. It is in Damn Small Linux, lubuntu and installed the LXDE spin of Fedora as standard equipment.

History

The first ( alpha ) release of Sylpheed was done with version 0.1.0alpha on 1 January 2000.

The resultant in April 2001 as a development version of Sylpheed, Sylpheed -Claws feature-rich cleavage reached on 17 January 2005, Version 1.0. The spin-off has been declining since November 7, 2006 now with the new name Claws Mail expressly their own way with a more developed independently from the parent project code base.

On December 24, 2004, version 1.0 was released Sylpheed. With version 1.9.0 of 1 February 2005 of GTK1.2 on GTK 2 ( .4 ) changed. On 29 July 2005 Version 2.0.0 has been released. Since version 2.6.0, the program includes a direct preview and delete function for messages on POP3 servers. Since version 2.7.0 plug-ins are supported. On 24 February 2010 the version 3.0 ( stable) has been released.
