Sylt -Ost ( Danish: sild Øst ) was a town on the island of Sylt in the North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein, which existed from 1970 to 2008. Seat of the municipality was Westerland. The municipality was managed full-time administrative headquarters of the Office of Sylt landscape and led to this by the administrative business.

History

The municipality was formed on December 31, 1969 the formerly independent communities Archsum, Westerland, Morsum and Tinnum. These former municipalities and the place Munkmarsch (formerly community Westerland ) formed the five districts of the municipality. This led according to the main statute, the term " resort ". By referendum in May 2008, the merger of the Sylt-Ost municipality with the town of Westerland on 1 January 2009, it was decided. The five stars of 2002 and approved by a Sylt artist -designed coat of arms stand for the former five villages of the municipality. The herring is supposed to represent the solidarity of the former municipalities fishing for herring and was led in the 17th century as a seal of Sylt's bailiwick. The colors are the old Frisian colors, which are also reflected in the traditional costumes.

Economy

The most important industry of the former municipality has been tourism, almost all farms were directly or indirectly dependent on the.
