Sylvain Lefebvre

Sylvain Lefebvre ( born October 14, 1967 in Richmond, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. In his career he played for the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques and their successor franchise Colorado Avalanche, as well as for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League and the SC Bern in the Swiss National League A. He is currently the head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Career as a player

In his youth, Lefebvre played for the Laval Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. 1986 offered the Montreal Canadiens the defender his first professional contract at, but he played the following three years only with the farm team of the Canadiens, the Sherbrooke Canadiens of the American Hockey League. His debut in the National Hockey League finally gave Lefebvre at the start of season 1989 / 90th He is thus one of the few players who have not come through the NHL Entry Draft in the professional league, but got offered a contract directly.

After three years with the Habs the player was transferred on 20 August 1992 in exchange for a third round draft pick for the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. There he completed two seasons before he was released in an exchange to the Quebec Nordiques on June 28, 1994. Together with Lefebvre strikers Wendel Clark and Landon Wilson went to Quebec. The Maple Leafs got in return Garth Butcher, Todd Warriner and the young Mats Sundin. In addition, both teams exchanged any of their first-round draft picks for the NHL Entry Draft in 1994.

Sylvain Lefebvre completed a total of five seasons with the Quebec Nordiques / Colorado Avalanche organization where he could win the Stanley Cup in 1996 with Colorado. In the 1997/98 season he was team captain for 18 games since Joe Sakic failed due to an injury. At the beginning of the 1999/2000 season signed Lefebvre a four- year contract with the New York Rangers. His performance fell off rapidly, however, and so it was that he became a farm team of the Rangers, the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL, sent during the season 2001/ 02 several weeks. After another year in New York, his contract expired and was not renewed. He then left the NHL and joined for a year the SC Bern before he took leave from active competition and ended his career.

Career as a coach

His first coach was the position of assistant coach at the start of the 2007/08 season with the Lake Erie Monsters, the farm team of the Colorado Avalanche. After the monster two years coached in the AHL, he was appointed on June 4, 2009 in the coaching staff of the Avs assistant coach Joe Sacco. After three years as an assistant coach with the Avalanche Lefebvre took a job as head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs.
