Sylvain Turgeon

Sylvain Turgeon ( born January 17, 1965 in Rouyn -Noranda, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( left wing ), which for 1983-2001 for the Hartford Whalers, New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League as well as the Wedemark Scorpions, Revierlöwen Oberhausen and Kassel Huskies played in the DEL.

Career

During his youth, he played together with Benoit Doucet at the Hull Olympiques in the QMJHL. After good performances he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 in the first round in second place of the Hartford Whalers.

After the World Youth Championship 1983, he played from the 1983/84 season for the Whalers. Here he was standing in a row with Kevin Dineen and Ron Francis. With speed and a strong will, he sat down by the NHL and was elected to his first season in the NHL All- Rookie Team. With him and a number of other young players like Ray Ferraro, the Whalers developed into a strong team in the NHL. 1987, they have looked but more on his brother Pierre, who was selected in the NHL Entry Draft first.

In exchange for Pat Verbeek, he joined in the summer of 1989 to the New Jersey Devils. Again, he scored 30 goals. In the summer of 1989, he underwent surgery for a hernia. A few weeks later, he was delivered to the Montréal Canadiens for Claude Lemieux. He started late in the 1990/91 season, but an injury to the kneecap forced him soon to a renewed break. After the return, he managed in the following season on the ice, brought him the Ottawa Senators during NHL Expansion Draft, he spent 1992. Two seasons with the Senators before he played at the 1995 Houston Aeros in the IHL.

For the season 1996/97 he moved to Europe. First stop was the HC Bolzano. After 23 games there, he spent a short time in the Swiss National League B for EHC Olten, but shortly afterwards he joined the Wedemark Scorpions. The following years were alternately rich. The 1997/98 season he shared between the Revierlöwen Oberhausen in the DEL and the SC Herisau in Switzerland. The following year he began in Switzerland at SC Langnau and soon moved to Kassel Huskies. Here he remained until 2001. His last stop was in season 2001/ 02 the HC Thurgau.
