Sylvania Electric Products is a U.S. company for the production of radio tubes.

Prehistory

Matthew Melville Merritt (1869-1936) had a patent for renewing carbon filament lamp and ran the Merritt Manufacturing Company in Middleton (Massachusetts), Massachusetts, in the building of the former Merriam Shoe Factory and Tylor. Frank A. Poor had from the sale of his hay and grain store $ 3500, and 1901 participated so in the company. Soon after, he also acquired the remaining shares, the company relocated to Danvers (Massachusetts ) and called it now The Bay State Lamp Company, which soon new carbon-filament lamp produced, starting in 1911 with tungsten filament. In 1909 he founded together with his brothers, Walter E. and Edward J. Poor Poor The Hygrade Lamp Company, the sale of its bulbs.

At the 1906 in St. Marys ( Pennsylvania), founded Novelty Incandescent Lamp Company ( Nilco ), for the production of decorative miniature bulbs, General Motors had acquired in 1910 company shares and Bernard G. Erskine appointed manager. 1922 bought Ereskin with two partners Nilco.

History

In 1924 Nilco the Sylvania Products Company for the production of radio tubes. 1931 were merged to form Hygrade Sylvania Corporation to market under the brand name Hygrade Sylvania light bulbs and radio tubes Hygrade, Nilco and Sylvania.
