Sylvestre Nsanzimana

Sylvestre Nsanzimana (* 1936) is a Rwandan politician and former prime minister.

Nsanzimana belonged from 1969 to 1971 the government of President Grégoire Kayibanda as foreign minister to. In addition, he was at times also minister for trade, mining and industry.

Later, he was Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of African Unity (OAU ) and Minister of Justice of Rwanda.

On October 12, 1991 President Juvenal Habyarimana appointed him the first Prime Minister of Rwanda, after more than thirty years. The appointment sparked criticism of the President, as this had not previously discussed the appointment with the parties. This office he held until his replacement by Dismas Nsengiyaremye on 2 April 1992. As prime minister, he was a member of the Mouvement pour le développement républicain nationally.
