Symphonia Domestica

The Sinfonia domestica (Op. 53 ) is a symphonic poem ( tone poem ) for large orchestra by Richard Strauss in Berlin and was composed in the years 1902-1903, where Strauss has worked as a Prussian Kapellmeister.

Like his previously composed tone poem Ein Heldenleben she wears autobiographical and represents a rhapsody about his family life represents the score bears the dedication: To my dear wife and our boys. It is divided into four sections: Allegro, Scherzo, Adagio, Finale, where three themes (the man, the woman, the child ) dominate. The sections are allocated to domestic situations: a lively visit to the relationship, relationship of parent to child, family discord, and as a finale to the domestic peace.

The work was premiered on 31 March 1904 in New York's Carnegie Hall at a Strauss Festival under the baton of the composer. Although the premiere was a great success, this tone poem, in comparison to the other works of Strauss, today listed only rarely. With the Vienna Philharmonic, the work was recorded under the composer's direction for the record.
