Symphony in One Movement (Barber)

The Symphony No. 1, Op 9 is a single movement work, which was completed by Samuel Barber in February 1936 in Rome. It contains the following moldings, which merge into one another without a break:

  • First movement (Allegro)
  • Scherzo ( Allegro molto )
  • Slow movement (Andante tranquillo )
  • Passacaglia ( Con moto )

The premiere was held in Rome on 13 December 1936. The following year it was set by Artur Rodzinski at the Salzburg Festival on program.
