Symphony No. 4 (Nielsen)

The Symphony No. 4, Opus 29, " The Inextinguishable " (Det Uudslukkelige ) (composed 1914-1916 ) is a symphonic work of Carl Nielsen. In it, a tonsprachlich harsh and musically dramatic character comes to light, the open passion has no equivalent in the previous works by the composer ( the lyrically sublime Third Symphony was almost three years ago ). Nevertheless, the work because of its classic four-movement structure and its moderate use of dissonance acts in retrospect not nearly as radical as the subsequent Fifth Symphony.

The Fourth Symphony is in four movements. The total duration is about 38 minutes.
