Symphorian and Timotheus

The Holy Symphorianus (* in Autun, † 178 ibid.) was a Christian martyr. His ( Protestant, Roman Catholic and Armenian ) feast day is August 22. He is the patron saint of falconers and was called of cripples and against the drought. The name is of Greek origin and means Symphorianus the Useful.

The Passion of the Symphorianus was recorded in the 5th century. He is said to have been the son of a nobleman named Faustus. As of yet youthful Symphorianus pagan cults mocked, he was arrested and - because he did not recant - finally beheaded. On the way to his execution should have encouraged him to his mother steadfastness. Euphronius, Bishop of Autun, was mid-5th century at the alleged place of execution built a basilica which was destroyed in 1806.

Numerous places in France after St.. Symphorianus named (see Saint- Symphorien ) because of the martyrs was much honored in the early Middle Ages.
