Symphysis

Under a symphysis ( symphysis ) is defined as a union of two bones by fibrocartilage. ( Not to be confused with the epiphysis ) It belongs to the unreal joints ( Synarthrosen ) and within this group the synchondroses, the cartilaginous bone compounds ( articulationes cartilagineae ).

In humans and other mammals symphysis occur as

  • Pubic symphysis
  • Intervertebral discs
  • Symphysis manubriosternalis
