Symplegades

Symplegades ( in the Graeco-Roman. Announcement " bringing together smiters " ) are in accordance with the mythological Argonauts two rocky islands, which lie at the confluence of the Bosporus into the Black Sea. One is located on the Asian and the other on the European side of the strait. Also, and in fact they bear the name " Kyaneen " which means the Bluish in Greek because of their schwärzlichblauen rock color. According to the legend, the islands are not grown in the sea, but swimming in the lake. Once they drift towards each other and thereby swell the sea tide in the middle with a terrible rage at. Then again, they drift apart and it forms a narrow passage between them.

The Argonauts have to pass through on their way to Colchis this bottleneck. On the advice of Phineus Jason can first a dove between the rocks fly through and as therethrough comes with less violation of the tail feathers, they row themselves soon after and come ( thanks to a recent surge by the goddess Pallas Athene ) with loss of rudder it. According to legend, heard the movement of Symplegades on since that time.

The existence of the islands is doubted by archaeologists, since so far no evidence of archaeological or geological significance could be detected.
