Synagogue Selm-Bork

The synagogue Selm - Bork is one of the few remaining synagogues in the country Westphalia. The exact year of construction is unknown, the first written reference is found in a directory houses of 1818.

In 1847, 68 Jews lived in Selm - Bork. In 1939 there were, according to the census of May 17, only two. The last Selmer Jews were deported in 1942.

Until the Kristallnacht pogrom of 1938, the synagogue for prayer was used. During the pogrom, the building was looted and partially destroyed the interior. The Jewish community was forced to sell the building. A coal merchant, purchased the building and used it as a warehouse.

In 1983, the synagogue was included in the list of monuments.

In 1991 began the renovation of the synagogue in 1994 and handed them to the public again. Since 2000 it is used by Etz Ami, a liberal community.
