Synchronized swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London found from 5th to 10th August 2012 at the Aquatics Centre two competitions for women in synchronized swimming instead. There was a decision in a duet and one in the group. The program was thus identical in comparison to Beijing 2008.

Qualification

Qualification criteria

For the group competition, each qualified by a representative of the individual confederations. Africa, Asia and Oceania determined its representative at the World Championships from 16 to 31 July 2011 in Shanghai, the Americas at the Pan American Games from October 14 to 30, 2011 in Guadalajara. UK qualified automatically as host and was seen as a European qualifier. Finally, three teams qualified again for a final international qualifying tournament from 18 to 22 April, 2012 London.

On Duet Event 24 pairs will participate. All eight NOCs that could qualify a group that received a start right also for the duet. In the final qualifying tournament in London then the remaining 16 quota places were awarded.

Won quota places

In addition to the pre-qualified hosts were able to secure as best group of their continental federation to participate in both competitions at the World Championships in China, Australia, Egypt and at the Pan American Games in Canada. When testing and qualifying competition in April 2012 in London finally Russia, Spain and Japan qualified for both competitions. All other quota places in the duet competition were also awarded during the test and qualification event.

Although the Swiss duet Pamela Fischer and Anja Nyffeler won a quota place in London, but missed the national qualification criteria scarce. The duo will not be nominated for the games. The released quota place will be awarded to Argentina.
