Synephrine is an alkaloid that is found in the bitter orange. As a phenylethylamine derivative is chemically and pharmacologically related to the ephedrine.

Synephrine is used as a metabolic stimulating and performance-enhancing use of funds. Bitter orange extract preparations are due to the Synephringehalts in weight loss help ( " fat burner " ), the effectiveness is controversial. In the U.S., synephrine is increasingly being used as a substitute for the prescription ephedrine there now.

Synephrine was patented in 1931 by Boehringer Ingelheim, is ( usually in the form of the tartrate ) used as a sympathomimetic. It is orally and intravenously for the treatment of low blood pressure ( " poor circulation ") and local ( eye drops) for decongesting the conjunctiva applicable, but has no specific therapeutic significance.
