Synfig

Synfig is an open source 2D vector graphics and animation program that was originally developed by Robert Quattlebaum than proprietary software. It should be the main instrument of which he founded Voria Studios. As customers, however, failed to materialize, it was placed after the decline of Voria Studios in 2005 under the GPL.

The goal of the developers was to write a program with which you can create game cinematic animation with fewer personnel expenses and aids. The program offers an alternative to this for manual tweening so that the animator does not have to draw every frame of a movie.

Ein-/Ausgabeformate

Synfig uses a proprietary file format based on XML (SIF, respectively. Packaged as SIFz ) containing the vector data and references to external graphics. In addition to various video formats, such as DV, Theora and MPEG, the animations can be saved as a sequence of frames, such as PNG, OpenEXR, BMP or as animated graphics, such as GIF and MNG.

With the help of external conversion programs, it is possible to incorporate SVG graphics and images from the graphics program Gimp with layers.
