Synod of Gangra

The Synod of Gangra ( Çankırı ) was held to 340/341. Other sources make a date 350-360 AD plausible. Reason for the meeting was the ascetic heretical movement to Eustathius of Sebaste, the so-called Eustathians.

The Synod condemned their teaching and their practices. In particular, the rejection of marriage, the non-observance of church festivals and fasting on Sundays and incitement of slaves against their masters was convicted. Also, that the Eustathians were holding their own worship and kept away from the church community was criticized. For the movement of the Eustathians is important that can be derived does not indicate a fundamental rejection of the property from the documents of the Synod, also do not seem to have been generally excluded by eustathianischer teaching Owning the eternal salvation.
