Synoecism
Synoecism ( συνοικισμός ancient Greek ) refers to the planned and / or arranged the merger of several villages into a city.
Usually the term is used in classical studies.

- Nicopolis - establishing the city in 31 BC by Octavian by merging the cities Calydon, Ambracia and Kassope
- Olynthus - expansion of the city by the merger of Chalcidian coastal cities Mekyberna, SINGOs and Gale in the year 432 BC
- Thessaloniki - Establishment 315 BC by Cassander by merging 26 towns on the Gulf of Thermaikos
