Syriac studies

Aramaistik is philology, which operates the study of Aramaic. Sometimes it is also called Syrologie because the Aramaic Syriac language has produced a particularly rich literature, is still spoken today and therefore usually is at the center of research.

Usually Aramaistik is in Germany no separate field of study; world, few universities special Aramaistik Chairs. Aramaistik is therefore often, less often combined with Semitic Studies, Hebrew Studies or Jewish Studies with Arabic.

The Aramaistik or Aramaic also plays an essential role in the Classical Studies and Religious Studies, as Aramaic is related on the one hand with the extinct Semitic language of the Akkadians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Canaanites and Amorites, on the other hand Galilean Western Aramaic as the native language of Jesus and his disciples applies. Also, some sections of the Tanakh / Old Testament and large portions of rabbinic literature is written in Aramaic, and Syriac language was in late antiquity by Greek and Latin literature, the most important language in the Roman Empire.

Often in the scientific employment ( dialects ) and development phases of the Aramaic language between Aramaistik and Neuaramaistik distinction is made with shapes.
