Syrian Kurdistan

As Rojava (pronounced Roschawa ) or West Kurdistan is considered by Kurds of Syria share the Kurdish settlement area.

Parts of this not clearly demarcated border area are as de facto autonomous areas under Kurdish control, these were proclaimed unilaterally by the Kurdish Partiya Yekîtiya Democrat (PYD ), the Syriac Christian Unity Party and other smaller parties during the Syrian civil war. The cantons are composed of (from west to east) Efrin, Cizîrê (northern part of the Syrian al-Hasakah province of Qamishli as its capital ) and Kobanê. On November 12, the PYD decided to set up jointly with other groups in northern Syria a transitional administration to address the grievances caused by the war in the administration and care of the population. On January 21, 2014, the establishment of administration in Cizîrê followed, on 27 January in Kobanê and a few days later in Efrin. The management should reflect the multi-ethnic and religious situation in northern Syria and each consists of a Kurdish, Arab and Christian - Assyrian minister from each department. Overall, the plan is followed to build a democratic system, as well as a women's quota of 40 % of the government is targeted, for example. According PYD is the longer-term plan to unite all three cantons under one administration. The PYD came with this step, however, both within Syria and international criticism.
