Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur

The Archdiocese of Trichur (Latin: Archidioecesis Trichuriensis ) is located in India Archdiocese of the Syro -Malabar Church, based in Thrissur, Kerala.

History

The Archdiocese of Trichur was on May 20, 1887 by Pope Leo XIII. Quod iam pridem built with the Apostolic Constitution as Apostolic Vicariate of Trichur. Trichur and Kottayam were the first, exclusively designed for the Catholic Thomas Christians of the Chaldean rite diocese, however, initially under Latin titular bishops. 1896 appointed to locals Apostolic Vicars; the ordinary hierarchy of the Catholic Thomas Christians was restored on 21 December 1923 and thereby the Apostolic Vicariate of Trichur by Pope Pius XI. virtue of the Apostolic Constitution Romani pontiffs to eparchy ( diocese ), while leaving it to the Archdiocese of Ernakulam imputed as suffragan. The Eparchy of Trichur was on June 27, 1974 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Palghat. A further transfer of territory on 22 June 1978 on the establishment of the Diocese of Irinjalakuda.

The Eparchy of Trichur was on 18 May 1995 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad augendum spirituale raised to an archbishopric.
