System Reference Manual

The system (also called SRM console) Reference Manual Firmware is the boot firmware for computer systems that are based on Alpha AXP processors.

The System Reference Manual console was developed by DEC to boot OSF / 1 ( later Digital UNIX, and finally called Tru64 UNIX ) and Open VMS operating systems. Later on other operating systems like Linux, NetBSD, OpenBSD and FreeBSD were set up so that it can boot with SRM.
