Sivota (Greek Σύβοτα (n. pl. ), Formerly Mourtos or Volia, Albanian Vola ) is a village with 875 inhabitants in the municipality Igoumenitsa on the western coast of Greece. He is on the mainland in the Epirus region and is the namesake of the municipality of the same name.

Other villages in the municipality are Faskomilia, Polyneri, Skorpiona, Argyrotopos and Vryssi.

The nearest major town is 24 km north of Igoumenitsa is 12 km north is the village of Plataria.

History

The first mention of Sivota 433 BC, when there has been a sea battle between the Corinthians and the Corfiots off the islands.

Under the name Volia or Mourtos ( Βώλια ή Μούρτος ) received the place in 1919 for recognition as rural community ( kinotita ). In 1927 he was finally renamed Mourtos, 1940 in Sivota. In 1997, with the incorporation of some nearby settlements this advancement to the municipality ( dimos ). 2010 Sivota was incorporated into Igoumenitsa, where it has since formed a district.
