Szczepanowice

Szczepanowice ( German Sczepanowitz ) is a district of the independent city of Opole in Opole Voivodeship.

History

The place Sczepanowitz originated in the 17th century.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 359 voters voted to remain in Germany and 242 for Poland. Sczepanowitz remained with the German Reich. 1925 lived 1152 inhabitants in the town. In the spring of 1928, the construction of St. Joseph's Church began. The church was consecrated on 6 October 1929. On 30 January 1934, the town was renamed in Stefanshöh. On April 1, 1936 Stefanshöh was incorporated by the district Opole in the city of Opole.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration, was renamed Szczepanowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship.
