The monastery Szczyrzyc [ ʃtʃɨʒɨt ͜ s] ( Monasterium de Cyrich; Ciricium ) is a Cistercian abbey in Poland. It is situated in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship ( Małopolskie ), approximately 30 km south-southeast of Krakow.

History

Szczyrzyc monastery was founded as a subsidiary of Abbey Jędrzejów from the filiation of primary Abbey Mori Moon. The continued uninterruptedly present monastery was initially founded in 1234 from the Kraków voivode Teodor from Ruszcza in Ludźmierz and settled in 1238. In 1241 it was moved to Szczyrzyc. His rank as Abbey was rebuilt in 1918. The domain that had been nationalized in 1948, was re-acquired in 1993 by the Order.

Buildings and plant

The renovated since 1620 and in the 19th century ensemble includes the church, the monastery courtyards, the abbot's house, a museum, the garden and the brewery. The new church was built in the Gothic tradition, using the Gothic walls 1642. It has the form of a Latin cross. New monastery buildings were completed in 1644.
