Szelanya

Szélanya ("first mother " ) or Szélanyó is a spirit in the Hungarian mythology. The legendary figure is a personification of the wind.

The story is about a wind that blows from a cave on the top of a mighty mountain somewhere at the end of the world. The cave is guarded by the old woman Szélanya. According to some versions blowing of a violent wind, if Szélanya, which is also known as a witch dies.

According to villagers were not allowed to curse the wind, or to curse, as this disaster conjured up. It was also forbidden to throw axes or other objects in a whirlwind, so that Sélanya was not violated and the harvest not destroy.
