Szukalice

Szukalice ( German Tschauchelwitz ) is a village in the municipality Żórawina ( German Rothsürben ), Poland. It is located 12 kilometers south of Breslau ( Wrocław ) on the Ślęza and belongs to the powiat of Wroclaw.

History

About one kilometer southeast of the site Tschauchelwitz, at the blaze, was since 1871 a major sugar factory. Its predecessor was founded in 1848 by Wilhelm von Schönau Jack Stegmann and rock sugar factory. For the transport of sugar beet a field train to 10 km to the south, Jack Schönau was built in 1925. Another field railway led to two kilometers eastern Rothsürben and offered following the railway line to Wroclaw. Thus, the raw sugar for further refining by rail to the large sugar factory in Klettendorf could be transported in Wroclaw.

In the era of National Socialism Tschauchelwitz was renamed in 1937 in Rübenau; However, the sugar factory retained the name was dropped and then Tschauchelwitzer sugar factory Rübenau.

After the Second World War, the city came to Poland in 1945. In an administrative reform in 1975 Szukalice part of the newly formed Province of Wroclaw. After its demise was the place from 1999 part of Lower Silesia.
