Szulok

Szulok [ sulok ] ( German: Sulk ) is a village in Somogy county in Hungary. The village is situated in the Southern Great Plain about 15 km from the Croatian border, which is marked by the river Drava.

Peculiarity of the community

Through his earlier very isolated position with regard to cultural, religious and ethnic affiliation of the inhabitants Szulok is a popular research topic in the European ethnology / folklore.

History

German came from Swabia 1750-1770 by Szulok and entered into the service of Count Széchenyi. This was in 1800 by the residents who were exclusively Roman Catholic, built the village church. The place had so far on an island situation, as he was surrounded by pure Hungarian villages. 1943, approximately 2,000 residents of the village. 1944 many fled voluntarily before the approaching Russian army to Germany, others were forcibly resettled later. In the 1960s, has been drilled for oil. In this case, a thermal spring with excellent water quality was found. The subsequently built by the kolkhoz simple bathroom with two small and a large swimming pool still exists today.
