Szymon Szymonowic

Szymon Szymonowic (Simon Simonides, born October 24, 1558 Lviv, † May 5, 1629 in Czernięcin ) was a Polish poet of the Renaissance.

The son of the rector of the cathedral school and the city council of Lviv, Szymon z Brzezin, graduated from the Cracow Academy, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1577, then probably in Belgium and France. After his return to Lviv (before 1584 ), he devoted himself to educational work and founded with Jan Zamoyski 1594 Akademia Zamojska in Zamość. Zamoyski rented him a piece of land in Czernięcin and later confided to him the education of his infant son Tomasz.

As a writer Szymonowic initially came forward with Latin poems, and later Polish seals came as Rytm po na pogromieniu teraźniejsze rozruchy and trained to Theocritus and Virgil's idylls work Sielanki added ( 1614). In addition, he also wrote two tragedies in Latin, Castus Joseph ( 1587 ) and Pentesilea ( 1617).
