T Pyxidis

T Pyxidis (short T Pyx ) is a 3,260 light years away from Earth recurrent nova. In the years 1890, 1902, 1920, 1944 and 1966, resulted outbursts like it to 6.5. On April 14, 2011, the beginning of a new outbreak was discovered.

In the system there is a double star consisting of a white dwarf and a nearby stellar companion. Due to the proximity falling material from the companion onto the surface of the white dwarf. Is achieved by increasing the pressure and the temperature of the focal point of nuclear hydrogen, there is a Nova outbreak. The white dwarf itself remains intact and the material from the companion accumulates again on its surface to what then after a few years will lead to a new outbreak.

The part of the name "T" follows the rules for naming variable stars and states that T Pyxidis is the third variable star, in the constellation of the ship's compass (Latin Pyxis ) was discovered.
