T Tauri

T Tauri (short: T Tau ) is a variable star in the constellation Taurus. He is the prototype of the T Tauri stars.

T Tauri was discovered in 1852 by John Russell Hind. From Earth, seen he appears among the stars of the open cluster of the Hyades, not far from ε Tauri, but it is much further away in reality with about 580 light-years. The leading "T " in the name follows the rules for naming variable stars and states that T Tauri is the third variable star, which was discovered in the constellation Taurus. Its apparent brightness varies with time irregularly from 9.3 to 13.5 mag.

Like all T Tauri stars T Tauri itself is also young, only a few million years old. He is associated with the reflection nebula NGC 1554-1555 ( Hindscher fog, vdB 28), which varies its brightness conspicuous.
