T. Cooper Evans

Thomas Cooper Evans ( born May 26, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, † December 22, 2005 in Grundy Center, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1981 and 1987 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

T. Cooper Evans attended until 1942, the Grundy Center High School and then served 1943-1946 during World War II as an infantryman in the U.S. Army. After the war he continued his education initially continued until 1948 at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and then to 1955 at Iowa State College in Ames. Later he also studied at the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology in Oak Ridge ( Tennessee). During these courses, he was from 1949 to 1965 as a lieutenant colonel Member of Corps of Engineers, the pioneer unit of the U.S. Army. Then Evans worked as an engineer and farmer. From 1965 to 1980 he was president of the Evans Farms Inc.

Evans was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1968 and 1974 he was a member of the Tax Committee in Grundy County; from 1975 to 1979 he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Iowa. He was also a 1966-1978 Delegate to the regional Republican party days in Iowa. In 1980 he became the third electoral district of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on January 3, 1981 to succeed Chuck Grassley, who had been elected to the U.S. Senate. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1987 three legislative periods. In 1986, he opted not to run again.

After the end of his final term in the House of Representatives Cooper Evans withdrew from politics. He died on 22 December 2005 in Grundy Center and was also buried there.
