The TF Green Airport is the airport of Providence, the capital of the U.S. state of Rhode Iceland. It is located on the boundary of the town of Warwick, and is named after former Governor Theodore F. Green.

History

The airport was opened in July 1931 as Hill Grove State Airport .. From the beginning he is the property of the State of Rhode Iceland, he was the first operated by a State airport in the United States. In January 1933, a first reception and administration building is inaugurated.

The first takeoff and landing tracks on the original 158 -acre grounds were just bulldozed. 1935 is a 3,000 ft (914 m) long runway built of cement, at the same time, the airport receives a beacon for night flights and a radio station. On December 27, 1938 assigns to Governor Robert E. Quinn, that the airport in honor of his predecessor Theodore F. Green received its present name.

After the entry of the United States into the Second World War takes over on 1 April 1942, the United States Army Air Force in control of the airport. Until 26 September 1945, the Army Air Force uses the Hillgrove Army Air Base as a base for combat and training sessions.

A new station building in 1961 dedicated to be to be suitable for increasing traffic with jet aircraft extended the start and runways in 1966. Today, named after the governor Bruce Sundlun reception building dates from 1996.
