T. Lux Feininger

Theodore Lux (Luke ) Feininger (born 11 June 1910 in Berlin, † July 7, 2011 in Cambridge, Massachusetts ) was a German - American photographer and painter. He was the youngest son of Lyonel Feininger.

Life

Feininger studied art at the Bauhaus in Dessau, where he worked with at the experimental stage and was a member of the jazz band. Later he devoted himself first as his brother Andrew of photography. In 1930 he began to paint. After spending several years in Paris, he returned back to Germany in 1935 and emigrated in 1936 to New York.

He was the father of three sons: Lucas, Charles and Conrad Feininger ( b. 1959 ), who has worked as an actor.

Work

Since the fifties, he devoted himself exclusively to painting. In his works, the influence of the Bauhaus school is always noticeable, but Feininger developed his own unmistakable style. By 1947, he signed his paintings with the pseudonym " Theodor Lux". In Germany, the artist acquired in 1998 by a major exhibition at the National Gallery Moritzburg (Halle) greater awareness. In addition to painting, he was a writer and a teacher in New York, Harvard and Boston. T. Lux Feininger lived until his death in Cambridge, Massachusetts. On his 100th birthday, the Kunsthalle Kiel in 2010 honored him with an exhibition.
