Tabas (Persian طبس, DMG Tabas ), capital of the district of Tabas, is a town of about 35,000 inhabitants located in the middle of Iran, 950 km away from Tehran. Located in the province of Yazd city, which formerly belonged to the province of Khorasan, is especially known for its old citrus fruit. The oasis city has a magnificent 300 year old public garden, Baghe - Golshan, which is famous for its fountains.

History

In 1978, the city was rocked by a major earthquake of magnitude 7.5 to 7.9 on the Richter scale. In Tabas and around 22,000 people died. Today the city is completely rebuilt after the devastation caused by the time again.

Near the city failed 1980 Operation Eagle Claw, which was coordinated to free the American hostages in Tehran.
