Tabea Zimmermann

Tabea Zimmermann ( born October 8, 1966 in Lahr ) is a German violist.

Life and work

Tabea Zimmermann began with the Viola ability already the age of three and playing the piano at the age of five. She studied viola with Ulrich Koch at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, completed her studies in 1985 at the Musikhochschule in Saarbrücken from and perfected himself in 1986 with Sandor Vegh at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. During her studies she drew attention to himself in international competitions and won first prizes in Geneva (1982 ), Budapest ( 1984) and the International Bratschenwettewerb Maurice Vieux Paris (1983). Then she received a magnificent instrument of contemporary French luthier Etienne Vatelot, on which she plays today on her worldwide concert tours.

Then she taught 1987-1989 as Germany's youngest professor at the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken. In 1994 she took over the viola class of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, since October 2002 she is professor at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin.

It is now considered a world-renowned musician.

She is married to the American conductor and head of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra Steven Sloane and has three children. From 1987 she regularly gave concerts with her first husband, the Israeli conductor David Shallon, until his death in 2000.

2011 Tabea Zimmermann was elected to the North Rhine- Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Awards

1995 Tabea Zimmermann was awarded the Paul Hindemith Prize awarded the Frankfurt Music Prize, 1997 with the price of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana Siena, 1999 with the Rheingau Music Prize and the Würth Prize of Jeunesse Musicales Germany, in 2006 the city of Hanau. In 2008 she was Artist in Residence at the Weimar Art Festival. In 2012 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden -Wuerttemberg.
